Herbst shoots school-record 65

SAN ANTONIIO – For the second time this season, sophomore Jennifer Herbst has fired a school-record 65 as the Bearkats will take a one-shot lead into the final round of the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational.

The Bearkats are 3-over and lead the hosts from UTSA in the 9-team field.

Herbst got her day off to a blistering start at the Par 72 San Antonio Country Club. She birdied No. 2 and then moved to 3-under on the day with an eagle on No. 5. After a birdie on No. 7, she carded her second eagle of the day on the par 4 No. 8.

Herbst made the turn at 6-under. A birdie on No. 13 moved her to 7-under and she closed out her bogey-free round with 5 pars. The round marks the second time this season she has fired a 65, breaking the previous record of 66 which had been done four times in program history.

With a second round 71, Herbst carries a five shot lead with 18 holes remaining.

Two other Bearkats are in the top 10, with Zulaikah Nasser tied for 4^th and Leah Alberto in a tie for 10^th.

Nasser opened her day with a 2-under 70 and followed that with a 73 to sit at 1-under and 7-shots back. Alberto was one of the few golfers who improved their score as the temps started to rise. She opened with a 73 and followed with a 72.

Viera Permata Rosada sits in 35^th at 7-over while Anna Takahashi is 49^th at 16 over. Audrey Haddad, playing as an individual, is 45^th at 15-over.

Wednesday's final round will begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
