HUNTSVILLE — The Sam Houston softball team was swept by Tarleton in a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader Friday at Bearkat Softball Complex.
The Bearkats (10-30, 4-10 WAC) lost the first game 8-0 in five innings and the nightcap 12-1 in five.
Game one was close for the first three innings as nether team was able to bring a runner home. An eight-run fourth inning by the Texans put the game away.
Tarleton had nine hits in the frame including a grand slam.
Sheridan Fisher and
Emily Telg each had a hit for Sam Houston.
The second game was also close through three innings with the Texans leading 3-0. Four runs in the fourth thanks to another grand slam and a five-run fifth helped Tarleton open it up.
Kyndal Kutac accounted for the Bearkats' only run. She hit a mammoth home run over the trees in left field in the fourth.
Haleigh Carter and
Elia Hebel also hit safely for Sam Houston.
The two teams will wrap up the three-game series with a single game Saturday at noon.
