Bowlers land six on NTCA all-academic team

NACOGDOCHES — For the third team in the program's history, six Sam Houston bowlers were named to the National Tenpin Coaches Association All-Academic squad as the team received academic recognition as well.

The Bearkats posted a 3.63 GPA as a team to earn the NTCA Academic team award. Sam Houston had the eighth best team GPA in the country and were one of 52 schools to post a cumulative team GPA better then 3.2 to receive the award.

Individually, Bea Hernandez, Syasya Ismail, Elise Chambers, Hayley Connelly, Sofia Druchyna and Taylor Lucas all were named to the NTCA All-Academic team.

Ismail earns the award for the fifth consecutive year. Hernandez four-time honoree and this is the third time while Chambers has earned all-academic accolades.

In the 11-year history of the program, 47 bowlers have now been recognized by the NTCA for their work in the classroom.

This year there were 397 honorees, representing NCAA bowling programs at 67 schools. A student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher for the academic school year to qualify for this award.
