HUNTSVILLE - The Sam Houston tennis program has been named an All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for the 10th consecutive year, the organization recently announced.
Â
In order to be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above and all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the 2021-22 academic year.
Â
The Bearkats have achieved this academic success in all six seasons under head coach Rob Hubbard.
Â
In addition, Petra Kaszas, Sahithi Vutukuru, Sunskrithi Damera, Rosalie Gerritsen, Lusine Chobanyan, and Isidora Zivkovic were also selected by ITA as Division I Women Scholar-Athletes. To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, players must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the current academic year.
"Both the team and individual awards earned by these young ladies is further testament to their excellence as student-athletes. Day in and day out they have performed on and off the court with workloads greater than the normal student attending college," Hubbard said. "It speaks volumes to their time management skills and commitment to Sam Houston State University, to the Athletic Department, to their team, as well as to themselves. Proud would be an understatement in explaining how I feel about their latest achievement."
Â
Since Hubbard's arrival in 2016-17, he has had 19 different student-athletes receive this award for a combined 38 times.
Â
Kaszas, Vutukuru, Damera, Chobanyan, Zivkovic, Megan Basson and Andjela Vidovic were also named to the 2022 Academic All-WAC team.
