HUNTSVILLE - The NCAA has recognized the Sam Houston tennis team as among the top 10 percent of all tennis programs in the country in Academic Progress Rate for 2020-21.Â
Â
This recognition is the third consecutive year for the Bearkat tennis program as they achieved another perfect score of 1,000. The APR score is announced each summer and is based on a cumulative rate for the previous four academic years.
Each year, the NCAA honors selected NCAA Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate. This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.
Â
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
Â
"It goes without saying that our goal is first and foremost to graduate student-athletes," head coach Rob Hubbard said. "The top 10 percent standard set by the NCAA is high and for the sport of tennis is even higher which makes me particularly grateful for the effort set forth by our student-athletes as well as the support provided by the athletic department's division of student-athlete services. It truly takes a family to achieve lofty accolades such as this latest one from the NCAA."
