HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston Bearkats will host Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday night at Bowers Stadium in a game sponsored by Bill Fick Ford.
The game against the Lumberjacks will be streamed on the ESPN+ with Randy McIlvoy and Shea Walker on the call in the booth.
Fans can also tune into KSAM 101.7 FM with Carlos Zimmermann and Brian Adams on the radio call both over the air and online. Live stats are also available and updates via social media will be available throughout the day by following @BearkatsFB on Twitter and Instagram.
The game will be one of the headlines of Bearkat Family Weekend and fans are encouraged to plan accordingly with a large crowd expected.
Current students attending the game will once again receive free entry upon presentation of a valid SamID. They are encouraged to enter through Gate 1, located on the north end of Bowers Stadium, beneath the scoreboard.
BEARKAT BASICS
- Saturday will serve as a battle of two transitioning programs with the Kats in the midst of a move from FCS to FBS and the Lions in their first season at the FCS level after transitioning up from Division II
- After Saturday's game the Kats will spend almost 2 full months playing away from home, not playing another game at Bowers Stadium until hosting Abilene Christian on November 12
- Sam Houston will be looking to avoid losing its third consecutive game at Bowers Stadium dating back to last season's playoff loss to Montana State. The Kats have not dropped 3 straight games at Bowers since falling in the final 2 games of 2008 and the 2009 opener

- Running back Cory Avery carried 24 times for 125 yards including touchdowns of 3, 4 and 1 yards
- Jared Johnson completed 23 of 38 passes for 267 yards including a 63-yard pass to Yedidiah Louis. Johnson also rushed for 74 yards including a 24-yard touchdown with 9:19 to play after the Lions had cut the Bearkats' margin to a touchdown
- The victory, Sam Houston's sixth in a row since opening the season with 2 losses, upped the Kats' season mark to 6-2 while A&M-Commerce fell to 7-2
- Lion quarterback Harrison Stewart completed 23 of 47 passes for 432 yards and three touchdowns.
- Sam Houston built a 21-3 lead with 13 minutes left in the first half. But the Lions roared back to tied the contest 24-24 with 10 minutes left in the third period before the Kats scored 14 unanswered points to end the game
LEFTOVERS FROM A 10-3 LOSS vs NORTHERN ARIZONA
- The low-scoring defeat has not been the norm for the Kats of late. In fact, the 10-3 loss is the first time the Kats have lost a game when allowing 10 or fewer points since a 10-6 loss at Bowers Stadium to Northwestern State on Oct. 8, 2005
- The Kats had their first explosive play of the season when quarterback
Jordan Yates had a 31-yard rush in the first half. he finished with a team-high 74 yards on the ground on 18 total attempts

Seth Morgan got the Kats on the board for the first time this season with a 44-yard field goal in the second quarter. He is now 5-for-8 in his career on field goal tries of 40 or more yards, with 2 of those 3 misses coming from beyond 50 yards
- The Kats held NAU to just 69 yards on the ground and have now held 27 of their last 36 opponents under 100 total rushing yards over the past 3+ seasons
- The Kats have only allowed 2 100-yard rusher in their last 34 games dating back to 2019, that being South Dakota State's Isaiah Davis erupted for 178 yards in the 2020 FCS Championship Game, which snapped a streak of 20 straight games without allowing a 100-yard rusher. The other was Montana State's Isaiah Ifanse, who finished with 105 yards on the ground in the quarterfinals of the 2021 FCS Playoffs
