HUNTSVILLE — The Sam Houston soccer team fell into an early deficit and could not overcome it in a 3-0 loss to Seattle U in the Western Athletic Conference opener Friday at Pritchett Field.
The Bearkats fell to 1-4-1 on the season and 0-1 in WAC play. The Redhawks improved to 3-4-1 and 1-0 in league play.
Seattle got on the board in the ninth minute with a goal by Hallie Begford and increased the lead to 2-0 with a score by Monique Nagel 20 minutes later.
The final score came in the 46
th minute when a ball glanced off the head of a Sam Houston defender and got past goalkeeper
Tatum Krueger, who finished with six saves, for an own goal.
The Bearkats finished with seven shots, four of which were on goal.

Kamryn Baquero each took shots on goal.
Sam Houston will host Utah Valley on Sunday at 1 p.m.
