HUNTSVILLE — The Sam Houston soccer team gave up a late goal in a 1-0 setback to Utah Valley at Pritchett Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Bearkats (1-5-1 overall) fall to 0-2 in Western Athletic Conference play. The Wolverines (5-1-3) improved to 1-0-1 in league action with the victory.
Neither team could sneak a goal in for the first 75 minutes of the match. Utah Valley finally broke through when goalkeeper Leah Wolf played the ball forward with a booming kick that Nicole Ray was able to take in and push the ball past goalkeeper
Savannah Hall, who finished with eight saves, for the game-winning shot.
Sam Houston went on the offense and had some opportunities in the final 15 minutes but could not match the goal by the Wolverines.
Landri Townsend had two shots on goal for the Bearkats and
Kennedy Baquero and
Pam Murray each had one.
The Kats hit the road to face Stephen F. Austin on Friday at 7 p.m. and head to UTRGV on Sept. 25 to battle the Vaqueros at noon.
