EDINBURG — The Sam Houston soccer team closed out a two-match road trip with a 1-1 draw against UTRGV on Sunday.
The Bearkats improved to 1-6-2 overall and 0-3-1 in Western Athletic Conference action. The Vaqueros move to 2-8-1 on the season and 0-3-1 in league play.
Sam Houston jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute.
Katarina Baehren and
Kinsey Hill played the ball forward and
Kailey Pena was able to split the goalkeeper and a defender to poke the ball into the net for her second goal of the season.
UTRGV was able to tie the match 10 minutes later on an unassisted goal by Ana Recarte-Pacheco.
The Kats finished with three shots on goal in the contest. The defense played well, allowing just two shots on goal as keeper
Savannah Hall finished with one save.
Sam Houston returns home to host Abilene Christian on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
