HUNTSVILLE — The Bearkats broke out offensively to hand head coach
Sonia Curvelo her first win at Sam Houston with a 2-0 victory over Louisiana Tech on Tuesday at Pritchett Field.
It also marked the first win over Louisiana Tech in the program's history. The two teams had previously meet four times with the Lady Techsters grabbing a pair of wins and two ties.
The two teams put on a defensive show in the first half. The Kats (1-3-1) were able to get three shots on goal while holding Louisiana Tech to just one.
It didn't take long for Sam Houston to finally snap the scoreless tie in the second half.
Freshman
Pam Murray took advantage of being in the right place at the right time. The ball bounced off a defender in the box right to Murray who punched it into the top left corner of the net in the 46
th minute.
Another freshman came up with a much-needed insurance goal in the 60
th minute.
Alesandra Maldonado used some impressive footwork to dribble around a one-on-one with the defender and poked the ball into the bottom left corner to make it 2-0.
Goalkeeper
Tatum Krueger and the Bearkat defense were able to hold off the Lady Techsters' attack. Krueger finished with six saves, five coming in the second half for the clean sheet.
