Kats perform well at first indoor meet

HOUSTON — The Sam Houston track and field teams opened the 2023 indoor season at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational at the Yeoman Field House on Friday.

Freshman Bryan Mileski kicked off his Bearkat career with a first-place finish in the mile run. He topped the field with a time of 4:21.05.

Gudisa Adnow captured second in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:33.74, and Rachel Maciejeski took silver in the pole vault with a leap of 3.85 meters.

Lilly Rodel was second in the shot put with a throw of 13.47 meters, and Luke Thielmann placed second in the weight throw with a mark of 16.91 meters.

In other men's action, Tyriq Brunn was fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.88 just ahead of teammate Eric Callaway who placed sixth at 21.96. Johnathan Howard was eighth at 22.42 and Nathaniel McRae was ninth at 22.54.

Christian Rohlack placed fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.26 and Jacob Zimmerman was 10th at 1:57.61. Christian Rivera was sixth at 8:39.76, Elijah McWilliams was eighth at 8:47.96 and Kyan Wallace was 10th at 8:48.79.

Steven Gruss placed eighth in the high jump with a mark of 1.90 meters. Benjamin Carlile was fourth in the pole vault with a jump of 4.61 meters and Sebastian Garcia tied for sixth at 4.01 meters.

Cobe Graham finished third in the shot put with a toss of 16.78 meters and Nikos Fotinopoulos was 10th at 14.06 and was seventh in the weight throw at 14.36.

On the women's side, Anivea Gilbert placed third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.44 seconds and Rajer Gurode was right behind her in fourth at 7.47. Jemia Goree finished ninth in the 200 meters with a time of 25.44.

Ellie Galan placed 10th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:28.82, and Sasha Elizondo was eighth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:26.64.

Tia Harry placed seventh in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.03, and Emma Melton was fifth in the pole vault at 2.80 meters. Jade Johnson was fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 11.83 meters.

Alauna Richardson was eighth in the shot put with a toss of 11.39, and Jadyn Walden was ninth at 11.16. Rodel placed ninth in the weight throw with a mark of 15.16 ahead of Walden who was 10th at 15.08.
