Men’s golf strengthens recruiting class

HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston men's head golf coach Brandt Kieschnick has added a standout junior golfer from Morocco for the 2023-24 season.

Hugo Trommetter has signed a letter of intent to play for the Bearkats. He is a four-time Moroccan Juniors champion, Moroccan Amateur champion and Arab Junior champion.

"We are excited to have Hugo join our Bearkat golf program," Kieschnick said. "I watched Hugo last summer and really loved his game and saw an elite player developing. Hugo has great ball-control with an efficient golf swing and has the ability to play very well on tough golf courses. Hugo's playing experience is very impressive and he's played well in major junior and amateur all over the world and, most recently, had the honor of representing Morocco at the 2022 World Amateur Team Championships.Â

"We can't wait to get him on campus to help us compete on a national level and chase championships."

Trommetter tied for sixth at the prestigious 2023 Junior Orange Bowl International Championship with rounds of 70, 68, 72, 72. He tied for fourth at the AJGA Mizuno/Greyson Sigg Junior Championship with rounds of 69, 71, 69.

Trommetter also tied for ninth at 2022 Sunshine State Amateur firing 72, 73, 73 and tied for 13th at prestigious 2022 IMG Academy Jr. World Championship with rounds of 70, 74, 73, 73. He qualified for the 2022 PGA Junior Boys Championship and finished tied for 54th with rounds of 73, 76, 78 and as a junior against the best amateurs in the world, he represented Morocco in the 2022 World Amateur Team Championship firing rounds of 75, 78, 76, 72.
