HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston could not find a rhythm offensively as Western Kentucky used a late goal to steal a 1-0 victory in Conference USA action at Pritchett Field on Sunday.
The Bearkats managed just four shots, three on goal to fall to 5-6-2 overall and 3-3 in league play. The Hilltoppers improved to 5-3-7 and 3-1-2.
Neither team was able to get much of an attack going in the first half as the opening 45 minutes went by without a goal. The first 24 minutes of the second half went about the same way until Western Kentucky finally broke through.
Kendall Wade was able to get the ball to Kayla Meyer in the box and she was able to sneak it past keeper
Libby Harper into the bottom right corner of the net for what would prove to be the game winner. It was just one of two shots on goal the Hilltoppers had in the match with the other hitting off the right goal post.
The Kats hit the road to play their final road game at New Mexico State at 2 p.m. on Oct. 22 as they continue to battle for seeding in the CUSA tournament.
