Women's golf takes title at K-State

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Sam Houston women's golf team fired the low round of the day to claim the title at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational hosted by Kansas State.Â

They entered the day in a three-way tie at the top of the leaderboard with BYU and Rutgers. With a round of 300 on Tuesday, they claimed the title by four shots over BYU and eight better than Rutgers. It's the second tournament title of the season for the Kats

Jennifer Herbst led the way for the Kats, shooting even par for the tournament to take third place overall. Her second-round score of 67 on Monday, was the low round of the tournament in the 9-team, 54-hole event.Â

Jen David had the low round of the day for the Bearkats, shooting a 71 to vault seven spots up the final leaderboard and finish in a tie for 7th.Â

Two other Bearkats closed out the tournament with top 20 finishes, with Zulaikah Nasser (+8, 224) finishing tied for 14th and Viera Permata Rosada (+9, 225) tied for 16th. Nasser had opened the tournament with back-to-back rounds of 72. Rosada shot her best scores in rounds two and three with a pair of 74s.

Gracie Heinle (+28, 244) rounded out the scoring for the Bearkats in a tie for 52nd.Â

The Bearkats will be back in action next week when they head to the Dale McNamara Invitational hosted by Tulsa.Â
