HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston had an off day at the plate to drop two games at the Bearkat Classic on Friday.
Â
The Bearkats were held to just eight hits and one run in losses to Virginia and Delaware. Sam Houston face South Dakota State on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
Â
Delaware 11, Sam Houston 1 (6 inn.)
Â
Sam Houston couldn't capitalize on with a bases-load no-outs situation in the fourth inning as Delaware handed the Bearkats an 11-1 loss in six innings on Friday.
Â
Elia Hebel led off the fourth with a single to left field, and Tricia Yarotsky and Haleigh Carter drew back-to-back walks. Julia Herzinger brought in a run when she grounder out to first, but that is all Sam Houston could scratch across.
Â
The Blue Hens struck first in the nightcap with two runs in the second inning on a pair of hits including a two-run double down the left-field line off starter Emma Guindon. Delaware added an insurance run in the fourth.
Â
The Blue Hens added another pair of runs in the fifth and six more in the sixth.
Â
Virginia 3, Sam Houston 0
The Bearkats had three hits but could not string anything together in a 3-0 loss to Virginia.
Â
The Cavaliers (2-0) scored two runs in first two innings and added an insurance run in the third to hold off Sam Houston (1-1). Mika Vento took the loss but settled in after allowing the early runs to go six innings in the circle with four strikeouts.
Â
The Bearkats got a runner in the bottom of the seventh when Regan Dunn drew a one-out walk. Sam Houston, however, could not muster any of the magic from Thursday's thrilling 11-10 walk-off win over UTSA in which the Kats scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Â
Ellie Grill, Kylie Hobbs and Brailey Wasik all hit safely in the loss.
