Kats capture 2nd at Stallings Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Sam Houston bowling team placed second at the Stallings Invitational on Sunday.

The Bearkats defeated host North Carolina A&T 4-0 to advance to the championship against Vanderbilt. The Commodores were able to hold off Sam Houston to win the title 4-0.

"It was a solid finish to the weekend after a terrible start," head coach Brad Hagen said. "We did a great job today keeping everything in play and improving throughout the weekend which was key to our run today. February was pretty good to us and to be honest, the conditions were as demanding as they could have been throughout the three events.

"We need to build on that, get rested up and be ready to step up in Nashville to position ourselves for a postseason run."

Elise Chambers earned all-tournament honors for the Bearkats. Sam Houston went 8-4 and had the third most total pins at 11,098 to grab the No. 3 seed in the championship bracket.

The Bearkats have a short break before heading to Nashville to play in the Music City Classic March 17-19.
