Kats rock to Music City Classic title

SMYRNA, Tenn. — The Sam Houston bowling team added a guitar its trophy case by winning the Music City Classic at Smyrna Bowl on Sunday.

The Bearkats knocked off No. 1 McKendree and No. 2 Vanderbilt to claim their second tournament championship this season. Bea Hernandez and Elise Chambers were both named to the all-tournament team.

Sam Houston bounced back from a 4-0 loss to McKendree to begin the championship bracket to top Vanderbilt 4-3. In a rematch with McKendree with the title on the line, the Bearkats rolled to a 4-0 victory with games of 212-170, 229-162, 193-165 and 236-190.

"This was a huge win for us against the No. 1 and 2 ranked teams in the country and in the RPI standings," head coach Brad Hagen said. "This was a great way to end our regular season as we prepare for the Southland Bowling League Championships next weekend."

Sam Houston will travel to Rowlett to play in the Southland Bowling League Championships at the ITRC on March 24-26.
