HUNTSVILLE — Rice hit a grand slam as part of a six-run fourth inning to hand Sam Houston an 11-4 loss at Don Sanders Stadium on Tuesday.
The Bearkats fell to 5-4 on the season, as the Owls improved to 3-5 in the final meeting between the two teams this season. Rice won a low-scoring affair 3-1 in Houston on Feb. 22.
After Rice took a 6-0 lead in the fourth, Sam Houston answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame.
Carlos Contreras was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning,
Walker Janek walked and
Clayton Chadwick was also plunked to load the bases with no outs.
Easton Loyd grounded out to second base to score the first run, and
Tyler Davis followed with a two-run single through the left side.
The Owls scored three in the fifth and two in the sixth to pull away from the Bearkats. The final run came on an opposite field solo home run by
Lane Brewster in the seventh.
Sam Houston heads to Texas State on Wednesday to face the Bobcats at 6:30 p.m.
