SMYRNA, Tenn. — The Sam Houston bowling team remains in contention following another solid day at the Music City Classic at the Smyrna Bowl on Saturday.
The Bearkats went 4-1 with wins over UAB (963-860), No. 10 Maryland-Eastern Shore (1,157-906), Lewis (1,151-986) and Wright State (1,097-907). Sam Houston moved into second place 10,420 total pins behind McKendree with 10,606.
Bea Hernandez finished second in the individual standings with an average of 229 and a high of 276 in the win over Lewis. Elise Chambers is close behind in fourth with a 222.40 average and a high of 246 in over Eastern Shore. Taylor Lucas provided a spark off the bench in the final three matches by turning in scores of 269, 237 and 244.
"Today's ending was pretty special and a great way to end our last regular season Saturday on a nice run, averaging 227 for the last three sets," head coach Brad Hagen said. "Anytime you get productivity off the bench it's a huge boost for the team, but when someone comes off the bench and catches fire it's even more special. Taylor averaging 250 for the last three sets was great for all and exactly what we need to carry over.
"We're checking boxes this weekend through two days and one more day closer to our postseason goals. We have to stay focused and keep being disciplined and you never know what we can accomplish."
