PHOENIX, Ariz. — Grand Canyon used a seven-run first inning to take game one of a three-game WAC series over Sam Houston with a 14-4 victory in seven innings.
The Bearkats (13-10, 6-1) trailed 9-0 before getting on the board in the top of the third inning.
Lane Brewster and
Tyler Davis singled to begin the frame then
Carlos Contreras and
Justin Wishkoski hit back-to-back two-out singles to cut the lead to 9-2.
Sam Houston inched a little close in the fourth.
Easton Loyd and Davis both singled to set up a two-run double by by
Joe Redfield.
The Antelopes scored two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to earn the run-rule victory.
Game two of the series will be Saturday at 8 p.m.
