HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston completed a Western Athletic Conference sweep with a 10-2 victory over Utah Valley on Saturday in five innings at Bearkat Softball Complex.
Tricia Yarotsky hit a walk-off two-run double in the bottom of the fifth as the Bearkats improved to 13-21 overall and 4-2 in WAC play.
Mika Vento got the win in the circle by posting five strikeouts and allowing only two earned runs in five innings.
The Wolverines (8-17, 2-4) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but it did not last very long.
The Bearkats erupted for six runs in the bottom of the frame as
Brodie Quinlan got things rolling with a one-out single.
Brailey Wasik followed with an RBI double and came around to score on a doubly by
Kylie Hobbs with two outs to tie the game.
Hannah Scheaffer broke the tie with an RBI single to left field, and
Tricia Yarotsky gave Sam Houston a pair of runners on with an infield single.
Haleigh Carter added an RBI single and the other two runs came on an error and on a throw down to second on a steal attempt that allowed Carter to cross the plate.
Wasik tacked on another run with a solo home run to left field, and
Emily Telg brought the crowd to its feet when she laced a ball down the right field line for an inside the park home run to make it 8-2 in the third.
