STEPHENVILLE — Hannah Scheaffer cleared the bases with one swing to propel Sam Houston to a 6-4 victory over Tarleton on Sunday.
With the win, the Bearkats clinched the three-game, Western Athletic Conference series 2-1 after winning game two on Saturday night. Sam Houston is now 9-9 in WAC play and 19-30 overall this season.
The Kats trailed 4-1 heading into the sixth inning when
Tricia Yarotsky doubled to center field and moved to third on a wild pitch.
Elia Hebel was hit by a pitch, and
Jordan Peno made it 4-2 with an RBI infield single.
Julia Herzinger reached on a throwing error to load the bases. Scheaffer stepped in an slapped a grand slam to left field to put the Kats on top.
Daryn Grams pitched four scoreless innings in relief to earn the victory in the circle. She did not give up a hit to even her record at 7-7.
Sam Houston's other run came in the top of the third to knot the game at 1. This time it was
Brodie Quinlan who went deep with a solo shot to right field.
