
Kats capture WAC Championship

BLAINE, Wash. — The Sam Houston women's golf team capped a remarkable regular spring season by claiming the WAC at Semiahmoo Country Club on Tuesday.

The Bearkats held off a final round charge by Seattle U and New Mexico State to win the title by eight strokes with a three-round total of 10-over 883 at the par-72, 6,203-yard course. Seattle placed second followed by NM State, California Baptist, Grand Canyon, Southern Utah, Utah Tech, Utah Valley, UTRGV, Tarleton State, UTA and Stephen F. Austin.

The Aggies had got as close as three strokes in the final round before fading down the stretch.

Jennifer Herbst finished in a four-way tie for first in regulation after firing 1-over 73 to push her tournament total to 2-over 218. She lost in a playoff as Hailey Loh of California Baptist took home the individual championship.

Zulaikah Nasser finished tied for seventh with rounds of 75-70-77 for 6-over 222. Leah Alberto was right behind her in 10th with rounds of 71-78-74 for 7-over 223.

Jenn David moved up the leaderboard to finish 16th with rounds of 76-77-74 for 11-over 227. Viera Permata Rosada tied for 24th at 14-over 230 following rounds of 75-72-83.

This was Sam Houston's fourth tournament win this season.
