Kats headed to San Antonio Regional

INDIANAPOLIS — The Sam Houston women's golf team is headed back to the NCAA Tournament.

The Bearkats were selected to play in the San Antonio Regional as the 10 seed after earning an automatic qualifying spot for winning the WAC Championships this week. Joining Sam Houston in San Antonio will be Texas A&M, which is the No. 1 seed in the regional, Auburn, Pepperdine, Oklahoma State, SMU, UCLA, New Mexico, Denver, Illinois, ULM and Missouri State.

The San Antonio Regional will be played at the TPC San Antonio with UTSA and San Antonio Sports serving as the co-hosts. Regional play will take place May 8-10 at six regional sites, with a total of 396 student-athletes competing.

All six regional sites will have 12 teams and six individuals. The top five teams (30 teams total) and the low individual not on an advancing team (six individuals total) from each regional site will advance to play in the national championships to be played May 19-24 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.

This is the fourth straight season the Bearkats have advanced to an NCAA regional. Last season Sam Houston earned the program's first-ever at-large berth as the 10th seed at the Albuquerque Regional.
