Nasser named WAC Player of the Year

ARLINGTON — Thanks to an impressive spring season, the Sam Houston women's golf team raked in Western Athletic Conference postseason accolades on Wednesday.

Junior Zulaikah Nasser was named the WAC Player of the Year, and Jenna Young was named the league's Coach of the Year after the Bearkats won the conference championship this week to earn a spot in the San Antonio Regional of the NCAA Tournament.

Leah Alberto, Jenn David, Jennifer Herbst and Nasser all were named to the All-WAC first team as well. Viera Permato Rosada was a second-team selection.

Nasser had four top-10 finishes this spring to help Sam Houston win four tournament titles. She won the Beach Invitation in Mission Viejo, California in February and placed seventh at the WAC Championships.

Young has been a big part of the success the women's golf program has had in recent years. This is the fourth straight season the Bearkats have qualified for an NCAA regional.

Herbst placed second at the WAC Championships. She was in a tie for first after 54 holes, but she just missed winning the individual championship in a playoff.

Alberto placed 10^th at the WAC Championships, David finished 16^th and Permata Rosada tied for 24^th.
