BOULDER CITY, Nevada — The Sam Houston men's golf team dropped out of the lead following the second round of the Western Athletic Conference Championships at the Boulder Creek Golf Club on Saturday.
The Bearkats came into the round with a three-stroke lead after going 14-under par 274 on Friday. On Saturday, Sam Houston was 3-under 285 but fell to third in the standings at 17-under 559 after Grand Canyon turned in a 15-under 273 to take the lead with New Mexico State (12-under 276) at 23-under 553.
Seattle is fourth (561) followed by Utah Valley (563), Abilene Christian and Utah Tech (571), UT Arlington (573), Southern Utah (578) and UTRGV (579).
Bret Gray remains tied for second place in the individual standings after shooting a 4-under 68 Saturday. He is five strokes off the lead at 10-under 134 through 36 holes.
Sam McKenzie is tied for 11
th at 4-under 140 following a second round 1-under 71.
Josh German shot 2-over 74 and is tied for 15
th at 3-under 141.
Kristoffer Max is tied for 32
nd at 1-over 145 after shooting 1-over 73.
Ting-Wei Hsieh carded a 1-over 73.
