NACOGDOCHES — Sam Houston continued to hammer Stephen F. Austin pitching to complete a Western Athletic Conference sweep with an 8-3 victory at Jaycees Field on Sunday.
The Bearkats collected 54 hits and drove in 46 runs in the series to improve to 27-18 on the season and a league-leading 18-6 in WAC play.
Sam Houston scored a run in each of the first four innings to pick up where it left off on Saturday. The Kats mauled the Lumberjacks 17-2 in seven innings in game two after handing them a 21-5 thumping in the opener once it resumed after the contest was postponed with two outs in the bottom of the fourth on Friday.
Tyler Davis drew a two-out walk in the first on Sunday then stole second base to setup an RBI single by
Carlos Contreras.
Easton Loyd made it 2-0 when he ripped a solo shot to right field in the second.
Justin Wishkoski doubled down the left field line in the third, and
Tyler Davis followed suit to make it 3-0 with another double.
Joe Redfield drove in Loyd, who singled, in the fourth with a sacrifice fly to center.
SFA finally scored in the bottom of the fourth to cut it to 4-1, but Sam Houston delivered the fatal blow with a four-run eighth.
Myles Jefferson walked and moved to third on a single by Loyd. Jefferson stole home and Loyd swiped second on a swinging strikeout by
Wes Folse push the lead to 5-1.
Wishkoski cleared the bases with a two-run blast to left field to secure the win for starter Gavi Goldiron (2-2), who gave up one run on two hits with eight strikeouts in seven innings.
The Bearkats travel to San Antonio on Tuesday for a midweek game against UTSA at 6 p.m.
