Kats fall in NCAA Regional Final

ARLINGTON – The season came to a close for the Sam Houston bowlers on Saturday afternoon in a 2-0 loss to No. 1 overall seed McKendree in the Arlington Regional Final.

"I'm really proud of the way this team battled this weekend," said head coach Brad Hagen. "It's not easy to lose the first match and have to fight back from the start. To win two elimination matches and get to the final says a lot about this group."

The Bearkats advanced to the final, knocking off Louisiana Tech in the morning's elimination match. After dropping a close game in the traditional format, losing by just 29 pins, the Kats started their comeback.Â

In the Baker match, they took a 20 pin lead after three games. But a 42 pin win in game four swung the favor to La Tech. The Kats saved their best for last, winning game five 258-228 to take the game and force a deciding best of 7 match.

The best of seven was back and forth match with each team alternating wins through the first five games with the Kats taking the 3-2 advantage. They then broke through with a win in game 6 to take the match. Â
