Betz signs with Bearkat bowling

HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston head coach Brad Hagen and the nationally ranked Bearkat bowling program is proud to announce its latest commit to the 2023 campaign, Carli Betz.
Betz, from Roseville, California, is the third signee from the state of California in program history and the first in almost six years. Her competitiveness has a long pedigree in her family, and she knows what it takes to be a champion even before bowling took her around the country.Â
At the age of 9, Betz was tabbed an Open Champion in Irish step-dancing. The Open Champion is the highest level an Irish dancer can achieve, and she competed as an individual and as a team.Â
"Carli has a keen sense of focus to detail which is a huge natural asset we look for," Hagen said. "She's traveled some wavering obstacles over the years and has still maintained her focus athletically, competitively and academically, most importantly. At the end of the day we need individuals on this roster who are going to push themselves every day without reservation in the classroom and on the lanes. I truly believe Carli has a strong understanding of what is needed of her, and she's ready to attack any challenge with open arms and enthusiasm."Â
Betz joins the Bearkat bowling program as a graduate of Del Oro High School where she not only graduated with honors but managed to graduate earlier this past December with a 3.5 GPA.Â
The multi-sport athlete between cross training and water polo has helped propel the six-time Nor-Cal Bowling Center YBA All Star to success all over the west coast and nationally resulting in nothing worse than top-five finishes since 2022.Â
In 2022, Betz was the Earl Anthony Fall Classic champion, had a fourth-place finish at the YBT event, and finish third at the U18 Southwest Region PBA Junior National Championship Qualifier. She picked up in 2023 with another top-five finish at the PBA Jr. North Sacramento West Regional and a top-three finish at the California State Pepsi event.Â
To date she's chalked up a personal sport shot best of 279 and a 740 series, respectably.Â
Betz will pursue and continue her education in finance or international business within the Sam Houston State College of Business.
