Bowling adds TSU transfer

HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston head coach Brad Hagen and the nationally ranked Bearkat bowling program is proud to announce its latest commit to the 2023 campaign, Cassie De La Fuente.
De La Fuente of New Braunfels is coming off one of her most successful years to date athletically.
De La Fuente's success on and off the lanes will make an excellent addition to the Bearkat roster as she continues her success forward. Her latest achievements in the 2022-23 season included a second-team SWAC All-Conference (2023) recognition and two all-tournament team performances.
Additional athletic honors included a second-team SWAC All-Conference nod (2022), Champions of Character Team honor (2023), and her highest averaged event this past season came at the Bearkats' home event where she averaged nearly 200.
"Cassies's competitive drive to join us and get to work will be a great asset to the program," Hagen said. "One of her greatest strengths is she has an extra gear that will serve her well here at SHSU with her competitive progression and knowing what she wants to accomplish."
Academically, De La Fuente added just as many accolades which included SWAC All-Conference (2022, 2023) honors, TSU Deans List 2022, 2023, Honors College Honoree 2023, Texas Southern University Athletic Training Superstar Senior 2023, as well as NTCA All American Academia honors.
"Her competitive experience will be a great add to the team as we continue to build the depth we need to push forward," Hagen said. "Cassie's is looking forward to getting to work immediately which will play a huge role in her developmental success here as a Bearkat. Her work ethic is among the best academically and athletically, and she'll make an excellent addition to this program's future."
De La Fuente joins Sam Houston bowling program from Texas Southern. At SHSU she will continue her academic success as a kinesiology major focusing on sports and human performance where she will assist in research.
