
Kats remain in ninth at NCAA regional

SAN ANTONIO — The Sam Houston women's golf team remains in ninth place following 36 holes of the NCAA Tournament San Antonio Regional on Tuesday.

The Bearkats shaved off nine strokes from their opening 308 to shoot 11-over 299 on Tuesday at TPC San Antonio, a par-72, 6,420-yard course. Sam Houston sits at 31-over 607 ahead of ULM (615), Illinois (620) and Missouri State (641).

Texas A&M moved into sole possession of first place at 5-over 581 after the Aggies shot a 2-under 286 in round two. SMU is second (585) followed by Oklahoma State (588), Pepperdine (591), Auburn (594), Denver (599), New Mexico (600) and UCLA (603).

Jennifer Herbst jumped up the leaderboard to move into a tie for fifth place after carding a 2-under 70 in the second round. She now sits at even-par 144.

Zulaikah Nasser also improved her position in the standings with an even-par 72 and is currently tied for 20th at 4-over 148. Leah Alberto turned in another 77 and is tied for 41st at 10-over 154.

Jenn David improved her opening round score of 81 with an 80 and is tied for 54th at 17-over 161. Viera Permata Rosada shot 11-over 83 and is tied for 60th at 21-over 165.

The final round resumes Wednesday with the top five teams along with the lowest scoring individual not on an advancing team qualify for the NCAA Championships May 19-24 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
