Late goal lifts Lamar past Kats

HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston battled down to the wire but as the match was winding down Lamar was able to sneak in a goal to come away with a 1-0 victory at Pritchett Field on Thursday evening.
The match was scoreless for the first 88 minutes when the Cardinals became the team that broke through the defensive stalemate. Arely Alaniz somehow mangaged to slip a shot from the left side of the box past goalkeeper Kassidy Baehren for what would prove to be the game winner.
Baehren had a solid night in the net for the Bearkats (1-2). She finished with eight saves while playing all 90 minutes.
Despite having only three shots on goal, Sam Houston had some offensive opportunities but just could not get anything to materialize.
The Kats take a break before hitting the road to face Houston Christian on Aug. 27 at 7 p.m.
