HUNTSVILLE — The Bearkats rolled to a pair of victories to open the season at the Sam Houston Invitational on Friday at Johnson Coliseum.
The Kats opened the day with a 25-15, 25-27, 25-14, 25-15 win against Nicholls. Sam Houston then capped the day with a quick 25-14, 25-12, 23-25, 25-18 victory over Oral Roberts.
Payton Woods led the Bearkats with 15 kills against the Colonels while Alyssa Fowler finished with 13 and
McKenzie Morvant added 11.
Avery Fowler had 25 assists and
Camryn Weldon had 16 as
Hannah Baker chipped in 17 digs.
Sam Houston once again had three players finish with double-digit kills in the 3-1 win over Oral Roberts. Fowler had a team-high 12 and
Hailey Heider and Morvant each had 10. Fowler finished with 17 assists, Weldon had 16 and Baker once again led the way with 17 digs.
The Kats close out the tournament with two games Saturday. Sam Houston will play Portland at 11 a.m. then close it out against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 4.
