JACKSONVILLE, Ala. — Sam Houston battled tooth and nail but could not get the advantage in a 3-0 loss to Jacksonville State in the Conference USA opener on Friday evening.
The first set came down to the wire before the Gamecocks were able to pull out a 25-23 victory. Jacksonville State won the second set 25-16 then wrapped up the victory by holding off the Bearkats (6-8 overall, 0-1 CUSA) 25-22 in the third set.
Hailey Heider led Sam Houston with 12 kills, four aces and also finished with eight digs.
Alyssa Fielder had eight kills and eight digs, while
Hannah Baker had a team-high 12 digs.
The two teams will play again Saturday at 1 p.m.
