Kats aim to extend winning streak

Game 19 • at Liberty • Liberty Arena, 6 p.m. • Live StreamListen LiveLive Stats

LYNCHBURG, Va. —
Sam Houston will look to stay atop Conference USA as it travels to Liberty Arena to take on Liberty on Saturday.

After their gritty win last week in Murfreesboro against Middle Tennessee, the Bearkats (10-8, 3-0 CUSA) will be on the road for the second straight week as they do battle with the preseason CUSA favorite Flames.

This will be only the third all-time meeting between the two teams, with each team having a win against each other. Liberty took the victory in the last meeting between the two teams in 2013, 62-58.

The Kats are coming off their first conference road test of the season, where they advanced to 3-0 in league play with the win at Middle Tennessee. It was a defensive battle, but Lamar Wilkerson's career-high 27-point outburst, including a game-icing layup and free throw, put the Kats on top.

Despite the win, the Kats will need to improve on the offensive side. They shot only 35 percent from the floor last week, their lowest shooting percentage in a win this season.

Liberty's defense has been susceptible in the early goings of conference play as well, giving up 70.8 points per game through conference play.

The Kats have also been getting major production from Marcus Boykin off the bench. Boykin has been averaging 6.6 points on the season overall but has stepped up in conference play averaging 11.3 points per game.

Saturday's game will be streamed on ESPN+ with tip-off set for 6 p.m.
