LYNCHBURG, Va. — Sam Houston's Conference USA winning streak came to an end in an 82-66 loss to Liberty at Liberty Arena on Saturday.
The Bearkats (10-9, 3-1 CUSA) could not keep up with the offensive attack of the Flames, allowing them to shoot over 60 percent from the field and over 50 percent from beyond the arc.
From tip-off, Liberty was hot from beyond the arc, making their first three 3-pointers and putting the Bearkats behind 10 early in the game.
The Kats were able to rally thanks to Davon Barnes being incandescent in the latter portions of the half, scoring eight straight points and keeping Sam Houston in the game heading into the break.
Liberty would come out of the half swinging, outscoring the Bearkats 11-6 in the first five minutes. Sam Houston could not rally like it did in the first half however, and would fall behind for good.
Lamar Wilkerson led the way for Sam Houston with 23 points, Barnes added 19 and Cameron Huefner had nine. Kian Scroggins led the Kats in rebounding with seven.
NOTES
• Wilkerson continued his incredible season, notching his fourth straight 20-point game of the season. He also had a season high field goal percentage with 68 percent.
• Wilkerson and Barnes were the offense for the Kats in the loss, combining for the most points they have this season with 42 between the two of them.
• The 82 points scored by Liberty was the most Sam Houston has allowed since a loss at Texas Tech on Dec. 28.
• The Bearkats saw good production out of Huefner, whose nine points were the most since a 73-60 loss at home against Texas State on Dec. 15.
The Kats will head back home to host former head coach Jason Hooten and New Mexico State on Thursday on CBS Sports Network. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
