Series vs the Cowboys: Wyoming leads 1-2
HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston will look to get back on the winning track when the Bearkats return home for the first time since the season opener to host Wyoming on Wednesday evening at Johnson Coliseum.
Tipoff for the game is set for 6:30 p.m. and will air on ESPN+. The game can also be heard online on the Bearkat Sports Network.
Renewing a series after a 30-year pause
• Sam Houston and Wyoming were regular opponents for a stretch more than three decades ago. The Bearkats and Cowboys played three straight seasons from 1989-91. Sam won the inaugural meeting in Laramie 72-69 in 1989. Wyoming took the next two matchups 98-84 in Huntsville in 1990 and 85-70 a year later in Laramie.
A close one out West
• Sam Houston took Utah's best shot early then battled back to make it a close contest late in an 83-79 loss to the Utes at the Jon M. Huntsman Center on Saturday night. The Bearkats trailed by as many as 20 points in the second half, but the defense made some stops, and the guys made some clutch shots to make it a one-possession game in the final seconds.
Sam Houston was down 15 with six minutes to go in the game when it started chipping away. True freshman
Jacobe Coleman, who led the team with 17 points, cut the lead to 79-75 with a clutch 3. Senior
Kashie Natt knocked in a pair of free throws to trim it to 2 only to see the Utes get the job done at the line down the stretch to seal it.
Sophomore
Isaiah Manning chipped in 13 points,
Veljko Ilic added 10,
Damon Nicholas Jr. finished with nine and Natt had seven.
