HUNTSVILLE – Sam Houston fell short in 84-77 loss to Liberty at Johnson Coliseum on Saturday.
The Bearkats trailed 80-63 with under 5 minutes to go when Sydnee Kemp kick started a 9-0 run with a layup. Diana Rosenthal scored eight points in the last five minutes in an effort to take the lead.
The Bearkats just could not overcome their early offensive struggles, shooting 32 percent from the field, to overcome the large deficit. Liberty's own Emma Hess put up 30 points on the night.
Sydnee Kemp put up 17 points and Diana Rosenthal was close behind with 16. Raanee Smith added 12 points and eight rebounds.
The Bearkats hit the road in search of their first CUSA win when they face New Mexico State on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The game is set to be aired on ESPN+.
