LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The Sam Houston women's basketball team continued to struggle offensively in a 76-63 loss to NM State at the Pan American Center on Thursday.
The Aggies jumped out to a 20-13 lead in the first quarter and added to it to take a 36-25 lead into halftime.
The Bearkats (5-12) shot just 30 percent from the floor to fall to 0-5 in Conference USA play. Sam Houston did, however, make five 3-pointers to stay within a striking distance until late in the third quarter.
NM State was on fire from all over the floor. The Aggies shot 47 percent from the field and made 47 percent (7 for 15) of their 3-point attempts to pull away in the second half.
Tamera Derrough led Sam Houston with 11 points.

Kaylee Jefferson and
Shanti Henry each scored nine while
Raanee Smith flirted with a double-double with eight points and a team-high eight rebounds.
The Bearkats will have another crack at their first conference win when they travel to El Paso on Saturday to face UTEP at 3 p.m.
