Kats improve at Prairie View Invitational

ARLINGTON — The Sam Houston bowling team is in the thick of things at the Prairie View Invitational following day one at the ITRC on Friday.

The Bearkats currently sit in sixth place with after going 4-1 in baker matches for a total of 4,990 pins, just 44 pins out of the top four. Jacksonville State is in first place with 5,282 pins followed by Arkansas State (5,095), Youngstown State (5,063), Louisiana Tech (5,034) and Vanderbilt (5,007).

"Today was a huge steppingstone I hope for the team," head coach Brad Hagen said. "We have the depth, the talent and resources to be successful, but we also need to learn to win. Today was a great start to a grueling weekend where nine of the 12 are top 10 teams. This is the weekend that can really catapult a team in the right direction if they come out on the right end and getting wins over No. 2, No. 7 and No. 10 was a great start.

"We have to find a way to keep moving forward. The rearview mirror is smaller than the front window for a reason and that's the focus right now."

Sam Houston opened the day with a 1,090-946 loss to Arkansas State then rattled off four straight wins. The Kats defeated Maryville 949-892, Prairie View 1,029-802, Vanderbilt 1,054-988 and Nebraska 1,012-976.

The teams will play traditional competition on Saturday with the top four in total pins advancing to the championship round on Sunday.
