Kats place second at Southern Queens

BATON ROUGE, La. — The Sam Houston bowling team battled to a runner-up finish at the Southern Queens tournament held at All Star Lanes on Sunday.

The Bearkats avenged two losses to UAB on Saturday to pick up a 4-3 win to advance to the championship match. The Dragons were able to knock off Arkansas State to set up a rematch in the title game.

The Kats won the first game then evened it with a 213-189 win over UAB in game two. The two teams traded wins, but UAB was able to seal it with a 208-185 victory in the finale of a best of seven match.

The Bearkats went 6-3 over the first two days to take the overall lead heading into bracket play on Sunday for the second time this season. Sam Houston had 9,449 total pins, giving it a 279-pin lead over UAB and 538 over third-place Tulane.

Day two on Saturday was a mixed bag of results for the Kats. They got a close win over Morgan State, blew out Southern then lost two matches to UAB by a total of 10 pins.

Stephanie McCoy had a big game against UAB with a 249, and Miya Greene led with a 187 in the win over Morgan State, a 245 against Southern and a 224 in the second match with UAB.

Sam Houston will host the TRACK Kat Klash this coming weekend at Emerald Bowl in Houston Nov. 1-3.
