EL PASO – The Sam Houston volleyball team finished out a weekend Conference USA series with a loss to UTEP at Memorial Gym on Saturday.  

The Bearkats (7-8, 2-2) could not capitalize in the 27-25, 25-12, 25-21 loss. Saturday's match follows Friday's loss where the Kats also fell 3-0 to the Miners.  

Sam Houston came back to force extra points in the first set as the team seemed to build off the previous outing. The Kats couldn't rally and fell 27-25 which allowed UTEP to easily pick up a win in the second set 25-12.   

Sam Houston continued to battle but were unable to extend the match, dropping the final set 25-21.  

Michaela Panekova led the team with 11 kills, and McKenzie Morvant added eight of her own. Avery Fowler had 18 assists on the day.   

The Bearkats will head to Ruston to face Louisiana Tech for a mid-week Conference USA matchup on Tuesday and Wednesday. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
