HARAHAN, La. — Sam Houston is in third place heading into the championship bracket after a solid day two at the Colonial Lanes Classic hosted by Tulane on Saturday.
Â
The Bearkats are 7-3 with 10,039 total pins. Vanderbilt is in first at 9-1 with 10,207, and Stephen F. Austin is 7-3 with 10,045 total pins.
Â
Breana Chewens had a great day for Sam Houston, placing 13th in the individual competition on Saturday in her first full event of the season. With an average of 210.60, Denise Blankenzee was 21st with an average of 205.0.
Â
"The road map each day you hope is defined but every day you can face new challenges especially with who you follow, when you cross with them, and then the ever-revolving door of other teams plan of attack," head coach Brad Hagen said. "You always need to be ready to adjust as much mentally as physically, and we two too many moments where we trapped ourselves.Â
Â
"Overall, it was a very solid day but when we have a lineup of opponents as we did today, we have to be attentive. Our new ladies have really embraced stepping up and it's been another full weekend of contributions so far. This is our fourth event in a row where we have a chance to play into a championship match and all you can ask for is to be in contention come Sunday."
Â
The championship round of the tournament will be held on Sunday morning.
