HUNTSVILLE — The Sam Houston women's basketball team opens its 2024-25 season at home, facing Jarvis Christian on Wednesday and Seattle on Saturday at Johnson Coliseum.
The Bearkats are aiming to improve after being picked 10th in the Conference USA preseason poll. Sam Houston wrapped up the 2023-24 season with a 7-22 overall record and went 2-14 in CUSA play.
Head coach Ravon Justice welcomes nine newcomers and assistant coach Aryiell Robinson to the program following the loss of seven letterwinners. Sydnee Kemp, the only starter among the team's four returners, will lead the Bearkats, while Bryana Block, Kelis Grant and Kaila Kelly each saw limited action last season.
The Bearkats are undefeated in their series against Jarvis Christian, with three wins that included scoring 100 or more points. The last matchup ended in a 101-55 Sam Houston victory on Nov. 16, 2022, in Huntsville.
Sam Houston also leads the all-time series against former WAC rival Seattle 3-0. The most recent meeting was a 67-60 win on Feb. 2, 2023, in Seattle.
