Kats tabbed No. 8 in NTCA poll

HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston has been ranked just outside the top five in the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association poll midway through the season, the organization announced on Thursday.

The Bearkats come in at No. 8 in the poll after a strong finish to the first half of the season. Vanderbilt is the poll leader, earning 22 of the 51 first place votes followed by Jax State (18 first-place votes), Nebraska (18), Youngstown State (three), Arkansas State, Stephen F. Austin and Wichita State.

Sam Houston had a strong first half with a pair of second place finishes right out of the gate at the Mid-States Championships and the Southern Queens. The Bearkats won the TRACK Kat Klash and came in third at the Colonial Classic.

"We're not where we want to be yet, but all things considered, we checked a lot of boxes off this first half, positioned ourselves well, and ascended the right direction," head coach Brad Hagen said. "The second half is always about the battle of attrition and our focus needs to be stretching out our depth more. Â We got there toward the end of the first half and that'll be where we need to pick up asap in January.Â
