Kats in eighth at Mid Winter Classic

JONESBORO, Ark. — The Sam Houston bowling team is near the middle of the pack following day one at the Mid Winter Classic at the Jonesboro Bowling Center on Friday.

The Bearkats went 3-2 in baker matches to finish with 4,903 total pins. Jacksonville State is in first place (5,410) followed by Nebraska (5,333), host Arkansas State (5,227), Vanderbilt (5,148), Maryville (4,991), Louisiana Tech (4,985) and Youngstown State (4,921) in the 18-team field.

"Overall, it was a decent day, and it was great to get a big win out of the gate but within the details especially later in the day is what needs to be cleaned up," head coach Brad Hagen said. "With a great field the moves pair to pair are typically more standard so it then becomes an execution thing and attrition.

"For Saturday we just need to stay disciplined within ourselves so we can stay ahead of what is needed. We have a great opportunity to step up and get the quality wins once again we need."
Sam Houston opened with a 1,023-1,019 victory over Arkansas State. The Kats' other two wins came against McKendree 997-938 and Alabama A&M 965-929.
