SAN MARCOS – The Sam Houston softball team took advantage of the Tulsa defense in 5-1 victory on Sunday at Bobcat Softball Stadium to close out the Texas State Tournament. Â

Tulsa scored first on an RBI double in the second inning. The Kats went two more scoreless innings before finally breaking through Â
Sam Houston (2-5) put its first runs on the board in the fifth inning. Â
Capitalizing on a critical pitching error, Morgan Holliday advanced to third and crossed home plate thanks to a passed ball. Tricia Yarkosky later scored on an Ellie Grill RBI single for a 2-1 lead.Â
Fielding miscues continued to be a factor in the Kats scoring as Kylie Hobbs and Jenny Robison reached base on pitching errors. Holliday hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning to put the Kats up 5-1. Â
The Bearkats will head to Nacogdoches for a doubleheader against Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday. First pitch is at 3:30 p.m. and is set to be aired on ESPN+ Â
