SAN MARCOS – The Sam Houston softball team took advantage of the Tulsa defense in 5-1 victory on Sunday at Bobcat Softball Stadium to close out the Texas State Tournament.
Tulsa scored first on an RBI double in the second inning. The Kats went two more scoreless innings before finally breaking through
Sam Houston (2-5) put its first runs on the board in the fifth inning.
Capitalizing on a critical pitching error, Morgan Holliday advanced to third and crossed home plate thanks to a passed ball. Tricia Yarkosky later scored on an Ellie Grill RBI single for a 2-1 lead.
Fielding miscues continued to be a factor in the Kats scoring as Kylie Hobbs and Jenny Robison reached base on pitching errors. Holliday hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning to put the Kats up 5-1.
The Bearkats will head to Nacogdoches for a doubleheader against Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday. First pitch is at 3:30 p.m. and is set to be aired on ESPN+
