Kats open CUSA tournament against UTEP

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Sam Houston women's basketball team will face UTEP in the first round of the Conference USA Tournament on Tuesday at Propst Arena. 

The Bearkats will be entering the tournament as the nine seed. Tip off will be at 5:30 and is set to be aired on ESPN+.  

UTEP has the leg over Sam Houston as the Kats lost both regular season games. When the Bearkats traveled to El Paso, the Miners won 66-61 and UTEP claimed an 82-66 victory at Johnson Coliseum. 

If the Bearkats get the win they will face top seeded Middle Tennessee on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. 

Game Notes
-Raanee Smith leads the conference and is ranked eighth in the nation in offensive rebounds, averaging 4.5 per contest. The team also leads the conference in offensive rebounds at 15.4 per contest. 

-Sam Houston leads the conference in turnovers forced, averaging 19.93 per game.  

-The Bearkats are running low in numbers as they continue to only have nine active players on the active roster. 

-The Kats have found themselves in overtime four times this season. Sam Houston is 2-2 in overtime games, with losses to Utah Valley and Jax State and wins against WKU and NM State
