HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Sam Houston women's basketball team could not slow down the UTEP offense in the second half of a 78-64 loss in the first round of the Conference USA Tournament on Tuesday at the Propst Arena.
The Bearkats (7-22) started strong with an 8-0 run. UTEP responded with an 8-0 of their own to tie it at 8. Sam Houston was playing from behind after that and 35-29 at the half.
Shanti Henry came out the break with a big 3-pointer to get some momentum going for the Kats. However, the Miners used a 12-0 run to begin to pull away from Sam Houston, which was down 60-45 at the end of the third.
The Kats outscored the Miners 19-18 in the fourth, but it was not enough to come up with the win.
Henry put a season-high of 19 points and Sydnee Kemp added 17 points. Kaylee Jefferson finished out with seven rebounds.
